'Where's the patient?' 'I am the patient,' Jeff Gordon says

AVONDALE, Ariz. – While talking about his massive crash Sunday at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Jeff Gordon recalled a somewhat-humorous visit to a hospital after a big wreck at Pocono Raceway in 2006.

Gordon lost the brakes in his No. 24 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet heading into Turn 1 at Pocono and slammed the outside wall. He was fine, though he was sent to a New York hospital for a CAT scan.

“This part of the hospital, I don’t think many of their patients walk in,” Gordon said.

“I’m here for my CAT scan,” Gordon told hospital personnel.

“Well, where’s the patient?”

“Well, I am the patient.”

“They told us there was a car accident.”

“Yeah.”

“How fast were you traveling?”

“About 200 when the brakes went out. I think I hit about 150, 160 mph.”

“No, seriously. Where’s the patient?"

It's a wonderful thing that any of these guys can walk away and be able to find humor in their disasters. What a great job they have, and I this new car is everything NASCAR hoped it would be, this weekend's wrecks prove it's value.

Amazing what they walk away from, his wreck this past weekend at Vegas was bad. I though Poconao was worse, I thought he was dead.
