BRISTOL, Tenn. - Penske Racing South's Kurt Busch led the first practice today for Saturday's Sharpie 500 Nextel Cup race at Bristol Motor Speedway.
Busch posted a lap of 125.436 mph in the opening session. Richard Childress Racing's Kevin Harvick was second, followed by RCR's Jeff Burton, Joe Gibbs Racing's Denny Hamlin and Roush Racing's Carl Edwards.
Clint Bowyer, Mark Martin, Casey Mears, Kyle Busch and Jeff Gordon rounded out the top 10.
Greg Biffle, Mike Skinner and Stanton Barrett all crashed in the practice session. Biffle and Skinner will go to backup cars, while Ware Racing did not bring a backup car for Barrett.
The Nextel Cup drivers are scheduled to qualify at 3:40 p.m. today and then will have their final practice from 6:30-7:20 p.m.
