Six Sprint Cup Series drivers were scheduled to test June 10 at Infineon Raceway in preparation for the June 22 race. Scheduled to participate were David Ragan, Sam Hornish Jr., David Gilliland, Travis Kvapil, J.J. Yeley and Marcos Ambrose, who will drive the No. 21 Wood Brothers Racing Ford. The drivers were slated to use Late Model stock cars provided by a Northern California-based race team rather than Sprint Cup cars because NASCAR rules prohibit drivers from testing Cup cars at a track where the series competes, except for NASCAR-sanctioned tests.
JTG Racing’s Craftsman Truck Series team has shut down, said team owner Tad Geschickter. Driver Scott Lagasse was 28th in the series point standings heading into the June 6 race at Texas. JTG had fielded trucks for the previous two seasons under the Wood Brothers/JTG Racing banner, but JTG and the Woods split this season.
Josh Wise drove two Nationwide Series cars at Nashville, the No. 99 Michael Waltrip Racing entry in the first practice – filling in for David Reutimann – and then the No. 22 Fitz Motorsports Dodge the rest of the weekend. Wise, a MWR development driver, has run the last two races for Fitz, but he isn’t sure if he’ll do more.
Kevin Lepage drove the No. 61 Front Row Motorsports Chevrolet entered by Specialty Racing at Nashville after a deal was worked out between Front Row owner Bob Jenkins, Specialty and Lepage. The car has likely run its final race because of lack of sponsorship.
Part-time driver Carl Long has been hired as crew chief for Front Row Motorsports’ No. 24 Chevrolet and driver Eric McClure. Long replaces Cal Boprey, who has left the team.
Jamie McMurray’s Ford will carry a special “Thanks Dad” Father’s Day tribute, courtesy of sponsor Crown Royal, in the June 15 Sprint Cup race at Michigan.
Jeff Burton’s No. 31 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet will carry a special U.S. Olympic Team USA paint scheme for the Aug. 3 race at Pocono.
