NASCAR Chairman Brian France said while there is interest from manufacturers wanting to enter the sport, nothing is imminent.

“Our policy remains open, but it is not something that happens easily or overnight,” France said July 3. “These decisions by a potential manufacturer take a lot of time and evaluation on their behalf.”

In his midyear state of the sport news conference, France said he is happy with the new double-file restarts, which he said “clearly are putting a nice energy around the events.”

Will the next big change be to the new car to possibly make it more racy?

“We needed to let the new car settle in without making a bunch of changes just because someone had not figured it out yet,” France said about the car that was implemented for about half the races in 2007 and then full time in 2008. “ … We have been under a lot of pressure on that, and it doesn’t mean that we won’t [make changes] if there’s something, and some things came out of our town-hall meeting that were interesting to us that we are looking at.”

Suspended Crew Chief To Return

Rusty Wallace Racing driver Brendan Gaughan will get suspended crew chief Bryan Berry back July 10-11 at Chicagoland Speedway. Berry was suspended after allegedly using a racial slur after Gaughan and Marc Davis collided on pit road during the Nationwide Series race at Nashville.

Berry recently went through sensitivity training led by University of Central Florida professor Dr. Richard Lapchick, the director of the Institute for Diversity and Ethics in Sports. Berry will also complete community service.
