General Discussion » Is Jimmy Johnson ill?
maybe he is tired of being a P/C poster child like hid Daddy Jeff Gordon.
Martin Truex Jr. will drive the No. 5 JR Motorsports’ Chevrolet for former teammate Dale Earnhardt Jr. in the NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Bristol Motor Speedway March 15.
Truex, who drives for Dale Earnhardt Inc. in the Sprint Cup series, won back-to-back championships driving for Chance2, a team co-owned by Earnhardt Jr. and Teresa Earnhardt, in 2004 and 2005. His first career victory in the series came at Bristol in 2004. In 94 starts, Truex has earned 37 top-five finishes, 57 top-10s and 10 pole positions.
Truex drove the JR Motorsports’ entry three times in 2006, earning two top-10s.
“We are extremely happy to have Martin in the No. 5 National Guard Chevrolet at Bristol, and we want to thank DEI for allowing him to drive for us,” said Kelley Earnhardt Elledge, vice president and general manager at JR Motorsports.
“Martin is a great friend to Dale Jr., and he is a tremendous talent. Every time he climbs in a race car, he has a chance to win.”
Mark Martin and Earnhardt Jr. have driven the car this season. Jimmie Johnson, Ron Fellows, Adrian Fernandez and Landon Cassill are also scheduled to drive the No. 5 Chevrolets this year.
The race at which of these remaining tracks will have the largest impact on who makes the field for the Chase For The Sprint Cup?

Mar 6, 2008 at 5:52 PMSays a great deal about DEI that they lack a Nationwide program so that their star drivers (Martin Truex, Jr and Mark Martin) must go to another team to get extra seat time.

Mar 6, 2008 at 6:21 PMActually I think it says a great deal about what the public trogging it took with Dale Jr and gang (Pops, Tony Jr, Kelly)dragging the company/Teresa down through has done to the Company. All he had to do was say I am unhappy here and I am going to drive somewhere else, then shut mouth.

Mar 7, 2008 at 6:12 AMDEI seems to be doing just fine. The public trogging, if there was one, hasn't hurt either company. As for Jr just saying he was unhappy and shut mouth, remember Teresa fired the first shot with her interview with the Wall Street Journal in Dec 06 about Jr needed to decide if he wanted to be a race car driver or a public personality.
