DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.Kyle Busch and Martin Truex Jr. traded barbs Saturday after the Camping World 300 Nationwide Series race at Daytona International Speedway as the two battled for position on the track in the closing laps of the race.

Truex said Busch blocked a move for second place, and Truex eventually lost the draft and finished outside the top 10 while Busch ended up second to Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Tony Stewart.

“Kyle drives like a girl,” Truex said. “I mean,  come on. We’re out here racing for fun. We had a hell of a battle. I had a lot of fun racing today with him, and then I had a huge run and he just blocked me. I pretty much knew he was going to do it. I had such a run and had to go.

“I know he is trying to protect his teammate to win, but I felt that we had the car to win. I felt we had the best car all day.”

Busch shrugged off Truex’s criticism.

“What else you going to do, man? “ Busch said “Shoot, he's pushing me through the tri-oval, wanting to spin me out.  I'm sorry I saved it and kept it in front of him.  Grow up, bud.  What do you want me to do, pull over? Next question.”

Truex said in hindsight, he should have wrecked Busch instead of backing off the throttle.

“I hit him and he turned down the yellow line,” Truex said. “And I had to pretty much stop to keep from turning him in the grass. I probably should have just turned him in hindsight, probably should have turned him in the grass and be done with it. But I usually don’t drive like that for some reason. I don’t know why. I just don’t.”

Busch said he was simply protecting his position on the track and not trying to keep Truex from passing Stewart.

“Dude, I was trying to keep myself where I needed to be,” Busch said. “I was getting passed left and right all day long when I got out of line.  I was just trying to stay in line.  He got a run on me, [and] I blocked him low. And then he tried to pull high, I blocked him high.
That's what you have to do if you want to finish up front in these restrictor-plate races instead of laying over and letting those guys go by you.”
