Toyota racing president disappointed with NASCAR decision on Nationwide engine

Toyota Racing Development President Lee White said he was “extremely disappointed” in NASCAR’s decision to alter the spacer applied to Toyota’s Nationwide Series engine, which will result in lost horsepower.

“In our opinion, there is no technical justification to penalize the Toyota engine utilized in the Nationwide Series,” White said in a statement released Wednesday evening. “The success of the Toyota Camry this year in the Nationwide Series is the result of hard work and achievement by all of our race teams ... working in conjunction with [Toyota Racing Development].”

White said the manufacturer will work with its teams to make sure they remain competitive despite the setback. He warned that NASCAR’s decision “could be more far-reaching than simply mandating Toyota adjust its Nationwide engine.”

“The real impact will be felt by the Toyota teams as they adjust to the change, work to remain competitive for the remainder of this season and attempt to line up their sponsorships for next year,” he said.

NASCAR sent a bulletin to teams on Tuesday night announcing the change, which is effective immediately. Toyota teams – mainly from Joe Gibbs Racing – have won 14 of 21 races this season.

If they are going to penalize Toyota they need to look at Roush's Fords.........when Edwards isn't reckless he seems to be able to drive by everybody........

Next they will tell Toyota to take the front grill stickers off because they are too airodinamic.

NASCAR is sending the wrong message. Finding things legally to out do the competition is the name of the game. Instead of Toyota having to alter their spacers, the other manufactures should be working harder to acheive the success Toyota has had. GIVE ME A BREAK!!!!

The only consistent factor with the 20 winning so many races is Dave Rogers the CC and the team. He is the Chad Knaus of the Nationwide series. Their pitstops are a big factor getting them out front. Last year when HMS was winning everything were they penalized? Next they will make them use 4 way lug wrenches cause Chevy and Ford will cry some more if they continue to win.

When the Toyotas are the newest engine design with the lastest and greatest (larger bore spacing, therefore larger valves) and the other guys stuff isn't approved yet (Chevy R07, Ford ?, Dodge ?)... obviously there is an unfair advantage and NASCAR made a call. When and/or if they approve of the R07 for Nationwide useage, it will be affected by the smaller plate. Check your facts people.

Joe Mama, you want facts my man?? Well here's a few for you... FACT: Only one team (the JGR #20) is responsible for 13 of the 14 total toyota victories in the Nationwide series, yet EVERY SINGLE toyota team will be punished........FACT: Of the 10 engines that were dyno tested after Chicago, the #20 engine came in FIFTH in the horsepower rankings. FIFTH!!! Behind two Fords even!!!.......FACT: Chevrolet won 22 Busch races last year. TWENTY-TWO RACES!!!!!!! And Toyota did not complain once........FACT: Horsepower ALONE does not win races!!! And this... for those of you as disgusted by all of this as me.... THIS is the one silver lining of this whole tragic farce! It means plain as day that the jealous cowards like Bowyer and Rousch that campaigned for this change are fresh out of EXCUSES!!!! If they get beat by a Toyota with a mandated restrictor-plate, well...... that noise you hear way off in the distance.... will be me laughing my A!@# off!!!

NASCAR is just continuing to follow it's tradition of changing the rules to suit itself. Back in the 60's, when ANYONE could walk into ANY Mopar dealership and buy a car that came equipped with a Hemi engine that had been around since the middle 50's, it came equipped with two four barrel carbs. NASCAR made them use only ONE ! But - FORD - who had a SOHC special built engine that came with ONE four barrel, (IF..... that engine could be actually be found) was permitted to use TWO four barrels. Now mind you - this was back when NASCAR had RACERS running the show, not "businessmen", who admittedly, have never even driven a race car. I won't risk angering the Chevy clan by mentioning the special "fastback" Chevies that no one has ever seen yet except on the track, that NASCAR approved. NASCAR assists Toyota with their new engine - -approves it - - -and then - PUNISHES them. What ELSE did you expect ???

if the toyotas would simply run into the walls each week things would even out ...more power equals more lead laps and wins. NASCAR has strived to make thr race equal and leave it to the driver talent... not the case now as a late caution means the lead toyota wins on restarts....

Worm cannot get past the fact that Toyota had to pay off a former Chevy team to get a winner. As Washington had his Benedict Arnold, NASCAR fans have their Worn Dirt.

Well, I'm just exasperated that TRD president is unhappy---maybe that should be TURD president---oops, I shouldn't have said that---now I sound like Worm! It's just that the president is unhappy all the way to the bank while we poor ticket buying, race track traveling fans are having to mortgage our houses to buy a six pack for the race. NASCAR, fix your bungling mess. The people who have supported you for a lifetime should not have to be having these discussions!!! And don't tell me to quit going to the races because that is surely coming in the very near future.
