LOWELL, N.C. – With a tractor-trailer bearing the Sun-Drop name and livery in the background, JD Motorsports officials announced Tuesday that the citrus beverage will sponsor the team’s No. 01 Chevrolet and driver Danny O’Quinn in the NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Lowe’s Motor Speedway later this month.
More races are planned on the “multirace” sponsorship but were not announced. Choice Beverage USA President Jay Falls said the races would likely be in the Southeast, in Sun-Drop’s distribution areas.
O’Quinn, the 2006 Raybestos Rookie of the Year when the series was known as the Busch Series, joined Johnny Davis’ two-car team this year.
Sun-Drop officials said they plan to activate the sponsorship with a show car, apparel, merchandise, die-casts and O’Quinn stand-up displays.
Sun-Drop's last half NASCAR sponsorship came with the late Dale Earnhardt before getting out of the sport.
Financial details of the sponsorship were not disclosed.

May 5, 2009 at 5:52 PMI am so happy to hear Danny has landed another sponsorship deal to help his team through the season. This young man deserves to be in a quality ride with good financial backing. The Cat in the Hat did not do right by Danny IMO.

May 7, 2009 at 7:08 PMConsidering the large amount of fruit juice and the like that I buy at the store, I can't for the life of me remember ever having seen the Sun-Drop label on anything. That wouldn't be anything big if the company wasn't focused on distribution in the Southeast.
Report as AbuseAs for Danny, I think he has talent, but Roush just had too large a team, and he got the raw end of the deal. At least he's still around: anyone seen Todd Kleuver lately? He was the one everyone thought Roush would pick for the #6 car, and it seems like when he wasn't picked, he got removed from the NASCAR scene completely.

May 14, 2009 at 3:00 PMBoemhart, don't be naive or expect others to be. Rousch was "impressed" by racin' politics. I shouldn't and cannot elaborate any further on it, you look it up. Danny Lee finished 4th at Indy, 11th at Bristol and won rookie of the year putting together scrap cars before races. Rousch dropped the ball. When this team begins to reap from its success, sponsorships and equipment, you will see a natural-born driver whose mommy and daddy didn't buy lessons (or a ride) for kickin' it closer and closer to the front of the pack out on the track. You can't put Sun-Drop on an artificially(money)created driver, Earnhardt would rollover. It's taken some heavy hitters crapping on Danny to delay him thus far, thank God for JD Motorsports, but you can't deny the truth when you gotta face it on a leveled playing field. Rousch has made quite a few dumb business moves lately, but he'll kick himself daily over this one very soon.
