The National Stock Car Racing Commission has rescinded the penalties NASCAR assessed to Rusty Wallace Racing following postqualifying inspection for the Nationwide Series race at Daytona International Speedway last month.
Wallace’s No. 64 team was penalized 25 Nationwide Series owner points, driver David Stremme was assessed a 25-point driver penalty and crew chief Steve Darne was suspended for six races and fined $15,000 for actions detrimental to stock-car racing and parts that did not conform to the NASCAR rules. The oil tank reservoir tank cover was not fastened securely.
After reviewing the testimony and evidence presented during the hearing, the Commission determined that “the cover appeared to be fastened," according to a news release. "All bolts appeared to be fully engaged. The slight deflection at one corner of the cover which gave rise to the penalty was arguable, given the overall design of the oil tank reservoir encasement.”
The penalty was rescinded by majority decision. Russell Hackett, David Hall and Chairman George Silbermann made the ruling.
The team replaced Darne after the Daytona race, where Stremme had transmission problems prior to qualifying and during the event.

Mar 4, 2008 at 1:29 PMWell I guess David Hall, Russell Hackett and George Silbemann don't need those 'shiney' jobs as members of the Stock Car Commission. They obviously used their very own minds to overturn the "Fat Head",(that's inflated) views of NASCAR(we don't make mistakes). So here's to you guys, but couldn't you have waited for a really big one before you were forced to "move on down the line." Arthur TX
