TALLADEGA, Ala. – Steve Wallace paced the first Nationwide Series practice Thursday at Talladega Superspeedway after turning a lap of 191.996 mph.
Wallace, driving Rusty Wallace Racing’s No. 66 Chevrolet, was the only driver who made a lap around the 2.66-mile track under 50 seconds. Second-place Jason Leffler (Braun Racing) ran a fast lap of 191.355, while third-place Marcos Ambrose (JTG Racing) ran a lap of 191.256.
David Reutimann (Michael Waltrip Racing) was fourth, with David Ragan (Roush Fenway Racing) fifth. Sixth through 10th were Brad Coleman (Baker Curb Racing), Clint Bowyer (Richard Childress Racing), D.J. Kennington (MacDonald Motorsports), Mike Bliss (Phoenix Racing) and Denny Hamlin (Braun).
The Nationwide Series has another practice at 6 p.m. EDT on Thursday. Qualifying for the Aaron’s 312 is at 5:05 p.m. Friday, with the race at 3 p.m. Saturday.
