Reed Sorenson is in the final year of his contract with Chip Ganassi Racing, though he could return to the No. 41 NASCAR Sprint Cup team next year.

Sorenson has been with Ganassi his entire NASCAR career, making his Busch Series debut with the team in 2004 as an 18-year-old. He moved full time to the Cup series in 2006 and has posted five top-five and 13 top-10 finishes in 92 career races.

Sorenson raced in the Nationwide Series last weekend at Gateway International Raceway and was asked what the status of his contract negotiations with Ganassi is.

“We’re working on it right now,” Sorenson said. “Working on it.”

Driver David Reutimann, who joined Sorenson at the news conference, interjected: “How’s it going?”

“Working on it,” Sorenson said with a smile

Sorenson didn’t disclose any further details. He and Juan Pablo Montoya are Ganassi’s Cup drivers after the organization shut down the No. 40 team of driver Dario Franchitti because of a lack of sponsorship.

I am a fan of Reed's and urge him to go somewhere - anywhere - else rather than stay with Ganassi. He needs to be in an environment where a veteran can mentor him and help him develop.

I'm not a fan of Ganassi or Reid, but I believe he would be better off with another organization .

I am a huge Reed Sorenson fan. I think it is a great apportonity if Reed gose to a new team. He is a great driver but is driving bad cars. It will be nice to see him doing good again. I hope he dose not resign for Ganassi. I can not wait to find out what Reed dose stay or go.

jennifer i think you are right in suggesting reed finds another drive for 09 he is in the same situation that david stremme found himself in and he (stremme) has gone well in the chevy he drives at the wallace stable no reason why reed couldnt do the same he deserves a break as he is a good driver cheers
