Sheltra Motorsports has announced plans to join forces with longtime NASCAR Nationwide Series team Jay Robinson Racing to attempt to make the field for the final two races of the season at Phoenix International Raceway and Homestead-Miami Speedway.
Sheltra Motorsporits, based in Whitesville, Ky., will have 22-year-old Patrick Sheltra behind the wheel. The team plans to compete in seven Nationwide events in 2009.
“We are very excited about our newest challenge and joining the NASCAR Nationwide Series,” Sheltra Motorsports team representative Grace Sheltra said.
Sheltra, who currently competes in the ARCA Re/Max Series, has one NASCAR start to his credit, a 2007 Craftsman Truck Series race at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
Although Sheltra has never won in ARCA, he did finish a career-best sixth in the series standings in 2008 by posting four top-five and nine top-10 finishes in 21 starts.
“I’m looking forward to making my NASCAR Nationwide Series debut at Phoenix,” Sheltra said. “This is a huge opportunity not only for myself but for our team to prove that we can compete at this level. We’re thrilled about the equipment we’ve obtained and our alliance with Jay Robinson Racing."
