INDIANAPOLIS – Scott Wimmer had led only one lap in the NASCAR Nationwide Series this season before Saturday night’s Kroger 200 at O’Reilly Raceway Park, but he looked dominant in JR Motorsports’ No. 5 Chevrolet early in the race, making a daring three-wide pass for the lead on lap 54 and pacing the field for 39 laps.

But something went wrong with the No. 5 Chevrolet, and Wimmer struggled to find the same speed the rest of the way.

“We had something go wrong with the right-front rotor or something,” Wimmer said. “The car was bouncing real bad.”

The ninth-place finish matched his best of the season.

“I’ve had good runs in this car, just never been able to finish it off,” Wimmer said. “We came here, led laps and ran good, so we can build on that and hopefully run better next week at Iowa.”
