JOLIET, Ill. – Carl Edwards jumped to the top of the NASCAR Nationwide Series practice charts in the final minutes of an 85-minute session at Chicagoland Speedway on Thursday evening, posting a fast lap of 175.080 mph to put his Roush Fenway Racing Ford in the top spot.

That knocked teammate Greg Biffle into the second position (173.851), with Braun Racing's Brian Vickers, Joe Gibbs Racing's Joey Logano and Phoenix Racing's Mike Bliss rounding out the top five.

Kyle Busch (JGR) was sixth, followed by the No. 5 JR Motorsports car driven by Ryan Newman and Roush Fenway's David Ragan in the No. 6 car.

Braun's David Reutimann and Germain Racing rookie Michael Annett rounded out the top 10.

Nationwide Series qualifying takes place at 3:05 EDT (2:05 local time) Friday with the race at 8 p.m. EDT.

Let's see now---Carl does race in the Cup level, correct? And, he has won the pole, or a race in that series how many times this year? I guess those that can't make it in the Cup Series have to drop down to the beginners' level to get anywhere.

First off monkee this is NOT the 'beginners' level. Far from it. Unfortunately he lost another 20 points to Busch tonight, but certainly still in second. Keselowski is a distant third, and HE is a cup driver also. So is Harvick, Biffle and some others that raced nationwide tonight. - - - Don't forget Carl is 5th at the CUP level too. So not too shabby. AND he won the most races in cup last year. Only his what, 4th year in Cup? Not bad if you ask me. - - - Go Carl.
