MONTREAL – Track officials patched parts of the 2.709-mile Circuit Gilles Villeneuve after the Formula One race here in June, but NASCAR is confident the track will hold up to the heavier Nationwide Series cars.
“There’s been some very small spots that we put some material on that’s like a paint,” Nationwide Series Director Joe Balash said. “We’ve just painted over, and it seals the aggregate together. We’ve had some small spots that we’ve worked with, similar to the situation we had last year in Turn 10.”
Balash said NASCAR has a “surface specialist” in Montreal to monitor the track conditions.
Drivers said the 14-turn track was fine.
“The track was in good condition,” JTG Daugherty Racing's Marcos Ambrose said. “There was no issue at all. The track stood up well for us. There’s some patches from last year obviously after the Formula One race, which gives us different grip. It’s a just a slight change in the way we set the cars up. The track is in good condition.”
