Nationwide driver John Wes Townley, sponsor to leave RAB Racing at conclusion of season

RAB Racing announced today that John Wes Townley, driver of the No. 09 NASCAR Nationwide Series Ford, and sponsor Zaxby’s will be leaving the organization at the conclusion of the 2009 NASCAR Nationwide Series season.

“The rumors are true,” said Robby Benton, RAB Racing co-owner and general manager. “I have been informed that both Zaxby’s and driver John Wes Townley will be moving on.

“I’m sure they will make an announcement regarding their new home in the coming weeks. I will leave that news for them to announce. The Townley’s are great people and Zaxby’s has been an outstanding partner over the past two years. We are grateful for the relationship we have had with them and wish both John Wes and Zaxby’s the best of luck in their future endeavors.”

The release stated that RAB Racing is looking at its options for next season.

"We are currently entertaining other opportunities for 2010 as we would like to remain a full-time competitor in the NASCAR Nationwide Series,” Benton said.

Another less-than-talented driver gets a ride. As with Buescher, money talks regardless of your lack of ability. John Wes is a nice guy but he never met a wall he didn't hit this season. Parents must own Zaxby's.

His dad is the CFO or VP I think of Zaxby's. Only reason he has a ride, although you can attribute some of the poor performance to his equipment. RAB cut their alliance with Roush, and haven't had that great equipment.

Supposedly Townley's going to RCR full-time next year. We'll see then if it's equipment or talent because everyone's won that has driven RCR equipment lately.

Nascar is money! Money buys rides. No money, no ride.

Isn't this the guy who seems to find the fence in practice, qualifying, and racing more often than ever seeing the end of the race? This guy makes Paul Menard look like AJ Foyt. Childress must be really strapped for cash to have him in a RCR car if the rumors are true.
