NASCAR to lift suspension of Rusty Wallace Racing crew chief on July 7
NASCAR has lifted the indefinite suspension of Rusty Wallace Racing crew chief Bryan Berry, who will now be eligible to return to competition on July 7, in time for the Nationwide Series race at Chicagoland Speedway.
Berry was originally suspended for an incident after the June 6 race at Nashville Superspeedway, where he was alleged to utter a racial slur after his driver, Brendan Gaughan, collided with Braun Racing’s Marc Davis on pit road. Davis is an African-American.
Berry, through Gaughan and team owner Rusty Wallace, said he did not make the slur.
Berry will have missed four Nationwide races by the time he is reinstated.
As part of the lifted suspension, NASCAR said Berry must “perform community service as directed by NASCAR.” Wallace said last week that Berry had completed sensitivity training and had talked with the Davis family.
