General Discussion » Can Tony Jr do for Brad what he couldn't do for Dale?
There weren't that many bad calls on timing and pitstops.
NASCAR has penalized Jay Robinson Racing driver Kenny Wallace 100 points and the team 100 owners points after the safety foam in the fuel cell did not meet the minimum specified height following the NASCAR Nationwide Series race Saturday.
The infraction, a safety issue, was found following Wallace’s third-place finish Saturday at Memphis Motorsports Park. Crew chief Chris Rice was fined $10,000 for that infraction as well as $1,000 for a rear coil spring that exceed the maximum specified height.
Jay Robinson Racing officials indicated they purchased the fuel cell from another team and it had been certified for competition. The team will not appeal.
NASCAR also fined Means Racing crew chief Jimmy Means $6,000 – $5,000 for carburetor venturis that exceeded the specified size and $1,000 for a non-approved rear brake caliper. Those infractions were found prior to the race.
Both Rice and Means were put on probation for the rest of the year.

Oct 29, 2008 at 4:20 PMSheesh. $10k fine in the Nationwide Series is a bit extreme, don't ya think? His third place run only net the team $41,293. There should be a cap on fines in the Nationwide Series: 10% of winnings.

Oct 29, 2008 at 6:38 PMI agree. I can understand that amout in the cup but not in the nationwide series. With all the other bad things this year happening that is a huge fine for them.

Oct 29, 2008 at 9:11 PMThis was a small fine for the finish that he ended up with. They should have fined this team more. If it had been any of the other drivers this would have been at least $25,000.The 100 points were about right.

Maybe crime will pay, after all.

Oct 30, 2008 at 9:49 AMTHAT IS WAY TOO MUCH TO BE FINED - THE SERIAL CHEATER CHAD KNAUS HAS NEVER BEEN FINED THAT MUCH & LOOK AT HOW MANY TIMES HE HAS CHEATED & BEEN CAUGHT!!! KINDA MAKES YOU WONDER WHY THE 48 HAS NOT BEEN LOOKED AT MORE CLOSELY THIS YEAR, DOESN'T IT? UNLESS THEY JUST WANT "GOLDEN BOY" TO WIN 3 IN A ROW???

Oct 30, 2008 at 10:21 AMTo Judy Brown, All Crew chiefs are going to push the limit. Chad had definitely been panalized way, way more than 10,000. Roush teams were caught (Carl Edwards team)on the Nextel Cup series, and several times with Matt Kenseth's team on the Nationwide series. Of course, it isn't broadcast as much for Rousch as it is for others. I believe that the real GOLDEN BOY is Carl Edwards!!! He ran into Juior in the driver's side door after a Busch Series last year, and NASCAR just slapped him on the hand for that. If Junior had not pulled in his hand, what might have happened there. Let's get real. Punishment is doled out by the "GODS" of NASCAR in major fashion in areas that they just don't seem to like and minor fashion in areas when parts are actually wrong. I've read about a bunch of the infractions they have given, and many of them are really not illegal, they just don't like them.

Oct 30, 2008 at 10:24 AMThis has NOTHING to do with Jimmie and the 48 team. Why do people insist on dragging this up every time someone else gets caught. Enough already !! Not nice Judy Brown.

Oct 30, 2008 at 10:38 AMIrene its because its Chad that is the one crew chief that has been caught cheating the most. GET IT And speaking of the 48 team i think the drive through jimmy had to do was just as jr. said a way for nascar to get the cars back in a pack. Good for Jr. speaking up . As for Kenny nascar is just getting to a point of just being plain stupid. In the first place the driver should never be penalized they don't know what is going on with there car in less they are there in the garage area watching 24/7. And with sponsor ship getting so bad Nascar or Brain France is going to run Nascar right in the ground. Its a sad thing to watch.

Oct 30, 2008 at 10:42 AMI must also agree with beth. The natiionwide teams don't get paid nearly enough and its worse in the truck series. The cup guys get paid WAY WAY WAY to much when will nascar get this sitution straightened out. I really feel bad for the guy driving in both series. Besides the truck series are much more exciting than cup

Oct 30, 2008 at 12:14 PMI think the handing down of penalities is getting way out of hand. And I agree you can't give the same penalities to the Nationwide and Truck series, that you give to the Cup teams. That's not fair. And speaking of Jimmie what is the point in giving a pit road penality, when the next caution gives him the lucky dog. And I really thought that you couldn't get the lucky dog if you were a lap down due to a penality.

Oct 30, 2008 at 3:56 PM$10k for an infraction like this is way too much. As it is, Kenny Wallace's team probably is struggling to even go race-to-race. They aren't one of the big teams, and this penalty doesn't help them. As for the bringing up of Knaus or Johnson: Why? Neither one are mentioned in the article, and all you show by doing so is that you are bitter that someone caught cheating can still get enough points even after a 100 point fine to win the championship. Grow up, please. It's gotten really old really quick how anytime someone gets fined for an infraction, someone brings up Knaus. So he got caught cheating a couple times. Big deal. And about the Lucky Dog, you can get it any time you are the first car a lap down unless you cause the caution. Plenty of people this year alone have gotten it after being hit with a penalty.

Oct 30, 2008 at 6:10 PMI can't believe you jealous so called race fans can't stop bad mouthing J.J. and Chad. They are the best duo out there. Proven last week...why didn't the other crew chiefs call their drivers in for tires even Jeff Gordon should have come in....

Oct 30, 2008 at 6:10 PMCome on Nascar Gods, stop with the penalities for the drivers. It is not the drivers fault the crews want to cheat. It is just another way to put money in your pockets. Cup drivers should not be allowed to race in the other series unless, like they say, its for practice, YEA RIGHT, those poor truck and Nationwide teams don.t make enough money as it is. I agree with Beth, to much. If a team is caught cheating the chief should be fined and suspended for a couple races, maybe that would stop the most of it. GIVE THE DRIVERS A BREAK!!!!!!!!!
