I guess it is cheaper to get caught with an illegal transmission, than a motor!

Interesting, it passed pre-qualifying inspection but failed post-qualifying inspection. So, while he was out qualifying, they must have changed the transmission, that's the only logical excuse!

Yeah, for some reason I don't fully buy this penalty and NASCAR's info.

NASCAR fines Carl Long a Gazillion dollars for an engine that was a fraction of an inch too large and suspended him for 6 months, but this guy gets a $2,500 fine and no suspension for an illegal transmission. Would someone please explain to me why such a vast difference in penalties?

must be nice to work for god(gibbs). they can't pull the trany and wiegh it before the session only after. that is definitely a performance advantage, so where's the major penalty. who plays favorites?

He works for Gibbs? JD Motorsports is an independent Chevrolet team in the Nationwide series, with no affiliation whatsoever to Gibbs.

As for the penalty, NW penalties have never been that high in comparison to Cup penalties recently. The deal there is that Cup penalties increased almost tenfold with the COT while NW penalties aren't going up- they would kill the series.
