JR Motorsports continues work on bringing Danica Patrick to NASCAR

FORT WORTH, Texas – Michael Waltrip Racing likely is out of the hunt for Danica Patrick, team vice president and general manager Ty Norris confirmed Friday.

MWR was considered one of the candidates for the IndyCar Series driver, but in the last couple of weeks JR Motorsports has emerged as the leading candidate to sign her to a NASCAR contract.

JR Motorsports co-owner Dale Earnhardt Jr. said Wednesday that his team is still talking with Patrick. Norris’ phone, though, has been silent.

“Things have gone so silent in recent weeks for us that I guess I would have to say we don’t have a good feel that we’re part of the discussions any longer,” Norris said at Texas Motor Speedway. “We haven’t been officially told one way or the other, but we’re smart enough to understand that crickets mean something. … In recent weeks, we have had absolutely zero substantive conversations.”

Patrick, the IndyCar Series star, is expected to run a partial Nationwide Series schedule next year.

“All we ever want is an at-bat,” Norris said. “That’s all Michael Waltrip Racing ever asks for – when someone of her stature will at least consider us and look at us and then we make it as a finalist so to speak.”

If she doesn't even have the class to communicate with you, WHY would you WANT her ??? SHE - is her own "BRAND" !!! NOBODY else - - Listen to her when she's on camera and - stay away - - - stay FAR away !!!!

MWR had no chance in the sweepstakes. No way Honda would want her in a Toyota and Godaddy has an existing relationship with both JR Motorsports and HMS.

Danika Patrick is nothing but trouble. She would not fit the MWR image. After two races and two wrecked race cars, sponsors will give up on her. She is not a very good Indy driver, and will not be a good NASCAR driver. There are far better female drivers to choose from.

As a redneck racing fan, I would prefer that Ms Patrick stay away from NASCAR.

MWR should try another Patrick...Patrick Carpentier would be a great choice if they are looking for a driver. Give him a REAL chance and you might be surprise with the result. I still believe that.

I, too, would prefer Ms. Patrick stay away from NASCAR. Her behavior on and off the track indicates she is a egocentric drama queen and sub-par driver.

She is nothing but trouble and Jr. has enough problems without her coming on board. If NASCAR wants to pump up a contriversial immage, then she is the one to get. They'll be sorry and not be happy with their diversity.

Definitely not intimidated by a woman in Nascar, please stop using that tired old default position. I've met Janet Guthrie, a fantastic woman driver with plenty to be proud of. Like finishing 10th at Daytona in 1978. And racing Indy cars against AJ and Mario. Pure class, guts, talent. It has nothing to do with the gender. Get over it.

#5,here, here, this is from a Canuck. on the other hand I have nothing against anyone who does the girlie stomp like Danica. Don't get mad ladies, I thought it was cute.Really though give the girl a chance, she just might fool all of us and win a few.

Why did Norris say "someone of her stature". She's good, but not THAT good. Good grief, this is all marketing b.s. and a money-grab anyway, for her, NASCAR, and likely for JR Motorsports if indeed a sponsor wants to pay for it. And like JRSmokefan said, due to the GoDaddy and Honda tie-ins, MWR probably didn't stand a chance.
