FONTANA, Calif. – Joey Logano is moving to the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series full time for 2009, but that hasn’t slowed him down in the Nationwide Series. Logano paced the first series practice at Auto Club Speedway on Friday, turning a lap of 175.400 mph in the No. 20 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota.
Logano’s lap was more than four-tenths of a second faster than second-place Clint Bowyer, who went 173.461 in Richard Childress Racing’s No. 2 Chevrolet. Bowyer also spun in the session, but his car was undamaged.
Carl Edwards (Roush Fenway Racing) was third, with Jimmie Johnson (JR Motorsports) fourth and Brian Vickers (Braun Racing) fifth.
Sixth through 10th were Kyle Busch (JGR), Mike Bliss (Phoenix Racing), Kevin Harvick (Kevin Harvick Inc.), David Stremme (Rusty Wallace Racing) and David Ragan (Roush Fenway).
The Nationwide Series has another practice slated for 8:30 p.m. EDT Friday. Qualifying for the 150-lap Camping World RV Service 300 is slated for 5:05 p.m. Saturday, with the race to begin shortly after 10 p.m.
