FONTANA, Calif. – Joey Logano never drove a race car at Auto Club (Calif.) Speedway before Friday.
You wouldn't know it by seeing his lap times.
Logano posted a fast lap of 176.043 mph to lead the final NASCAR Nationwide Series practice for Saturday's Camping World RV Service 300, a big boost for Joe Gibbs Racing's No. 20 team after recent suspensions depleted the crew.
Jamie McMurray (Roush Fenway Racing) was second at 175.080 mph, followed by Logano's JGR teammate Kyle Busch (175.072) in the team's No. 18 car.
Kevin Harvick, driving his own Kevin Harvick Inc. car, was fourth, followed by Roush Fenway's Carl Edwards.
Series points leader Clint Bowyer (Richard Childress Racing) was sixth on the speed charts, followed by David Reutimann (Michael Waltrip Racing), Mike Bliss (Phoenix Racing), Jeff Burton (RCR) and Steve Wallace (Rusty Wallace Racing).
Qualifying for the race begins at 5:05 p.m. EDT Saturday, with the race scheduled for 10 p.m.
