Stephen Leicht will get his first chance to drive for Richard Childress Racing in Saturday's Stater Bros. 300 Nationwide Series race at California Speedway.

Leicht is entered in RCR’s No. 21 Chevrolet, which was driven in the season-opening race at Daytona by Bobby Labonte. Leicht is scheduled to race at least two times for RCR this year after leaving the defunct Robert Yates Racing team last year.

“I’m really excited about competing under the RCR banner this weekend,” Leicht said. “The Nationwide program at RCR is the best out there, and to have an opportunity to drive for a championship winning team is unbelievable. I’m honored to drive for Richard and equally excited to be part of the RCR family.”

RCR’s No. 21 team, led by crew chief Shane Wilson, won the 2006 championship with Kevin Harvick driving. And the team’s No. 29 crew won the 2007 owners title.

Leicht clearly knows he’s in good equipment for this weekend’s race.

“The track record with RCR’s Nationwide program is amazing, and it definitely gives me a lot of confidence going into the weekend,” Leicht said. “My goal is to keep the good finish streak alive. I know that Shane and the rest of the team work hard week in and week out to build and prepare great race cars. I’m excited to work with Shane and look forward to learning from the championship team.”
