Lamar will be in Baker Curb's No. 37 Nationwide Ford 'as much as possible'

WEST ALLIS, Wis. – Driver Burney Lamar said he will continue to drive Baker Curb Racing’s unsponsored No. 37 Ford in the Nationwide Series as long as the team wants him.
Lamar, a former Kevin Harvick Inc. development driver, has been in the car eight times this year, with a best finish of 18th at Nashville. Lamar lives in the Nashville area, which is Baker Curb’s headquarters.
“As of right now, I’m going to be in this thing as much as possible,” Lamar said. “I don’t think we’re going to go to Daytona, but as of right now, I think I’ll be in the 37 as much as possible.”
The No. 37 is 33rd in owners points after the Camping World RV Rental 250 at The Milwaukee Mile and will have to qualify on speed for New Hampshire next weekend.
Lamar is married to former supermodel Niki Taylor, whom Lamar said supports his racing career.
“A lot of the drivers that were here in my rookie class, they had really good opportunities,” Lamar said. “I can honestly say if it wasn’t for my wife, I probably would have moved back to California and gotten a full-time job to make ends meet.
“She’s been very successful. I’m not going to say she’s paying my way, but she definitely makes life a lot easier on me. Whatever they want to call me, I’ve got thick skin.”
Lamar spent most of 2007 still under contract with KHI.
“I’ve learned one thing about it: I stressed out for it for a long time,” Lamar said. “There’s only one person that can make you happy, and that’s you. I’m just thankful for the opportunity to be at the race track. We’re not trying to push anything. I’m just walking through the doors. Things keep looking up every day, things get better and better, and there’s more and more talk of things happening. Hopefully, some day it works out.”
Lamar still wants to race full time and eventually run in the Sprint Cup Series.
"Obviously, I want to be racing," Lamar said. "There's no doubt about it. I want to be racing in the [Nationwide] Series, and I want to race the full Cup series eventually, whenever that opportunity arises."

Report as AbuseI am a fan and want to know why would you want to drive a piece of junk around the track for a low level team? All you have to do is watch their cars every weekend to know they are not hooked up. The talented Coleman kid ran up front last year at tracks he is struggling to get in the Top 20 now. Is the team going to pony up and get better equipment. If not, why drive for them unless you are desperate?
