CONCORD, N.C. – Kevin Lepage said Saturday he will drive for Means Racing for the remainder of the NASCAR Nationwide Series schedule.
Lepage has driven in two races this year for Means’ team, which is outside the top 30 in owners points and thus isn’t locked in to each race. Lepage is a veteran driver with 249 Nationwide starts and 201 starts in the Cup series.
Means had employed several drivers for his No. 52 entry this year.
“It’s imperative he gets back in the points,” Lepage said. “You’ve got to find somebody with some experience to get the car in the show and save the car [in the race] and try to get as many points as you can week in and week out. We’re not going to get back in two or three weeks, but maybe by the end of the season, if we stay the course, we probably can get him locked back in.”
Lepage failed to qualify for Saturday night’s Carquest Auto Parts 300.
“We’ve got to get the cars organized and everything lined up,” Lepage said. “With changing drivers week in and week out, you never get ahead with finding out what the car wants. … He’s got some good stuff, it’s just getting the I’s dotted and the T’s crossed to be competitive.”
Lepage said he and Means are teaming as the crew chief.
