JR Motorsports' Brad Keselowski fell a spot to third in the NASCAR Nationwide Series standings last weekend, but he's still in the hunt for his first series title.

Keselowski finished 11th at Michigan last Saturday, but lost ground to race-winner Carl Edwards, who moved to second in the standings. He is only 19 points out of the spot, though, and trails leader Clint Bowyer and his Richard Childress Racing team by 132 points.

Bowyer and Edwards are both also full-time Sprint Cup competitors, so Keselowski is the series' top Nationwide-only competitor.

He's hoping he can regain the ground this weekend at Bristol Motor Speedway, site of Friday night's Food City 250. In two starts at the track, he has two top-10 finishes and an average final position of 5.5.

He seems to have taken to the .533-mile oval - and says that he recognizes the balancing act needed there between aggression and staying out of trouble. And he hopes that knowledge helps him gain positions this weekend.

"Even with the newer surface, there’s beating and banging," he says of the changes to the track that seem to have created a second racing groove.

"It really comes down to the drivers. At the end of the day, they changed the track at Bristol, but you can still beat and bang. I think the drivers have started to realize that the penalties for doing that aren’t worth the rewards.

"One spot is not worth the risk to your own car and whatever goes with that, as far as angering another driver and getting it back 10 times worse than what you gave it either that night or a night later. It’s still going to be a great race at Bristol.”

This weekend, Keselowski's No. 88 Chevrolet will sport the logo of the Dale Jr. Celebrity Sports Auction. The event, created by team co-owner Dale Earnhardt Jr., is scheduled for Oct. 13 at the Concord (N.C.) Convention Center, with proceeds from the event benefiting The Dale Jr. Foundation, Make-A-Wish and Victory Junction Gang Camp. There will also be a charity concert at Earnhardt Jr.'s Whisky River on Oct. 12 in conjunction with the event. More information on the event is available at www.thedalejrfoundation.org.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, and again, that Brad shouldnt have to compete with the Cup guys for a Nationwide Championship, they should confine their racing to their own "turf", unless they are so insecure in their ablities as racers and think its easier to get a win in the "junior league". I hope for the day to come when they(Cup drivers) will be banned from Nationwide races. Good luck, Brad!!

I totally agree. I believe that if a Cup driver does not own a team in the Nationwide Series then they should stay on their own turf. Brad has shown that he is the true leader in the Nationwide Series. Good Luck Brad! Hope to see you in Victory Lane again soon!!!!

I agree and have said before that the cup drivers should not be allowed to win the nationwide championship. That privalage should be for the nationwide drivers only. However with that being said if the cup drivers didnt come and drive on the nationwide side they would be hard pressed to get enough cars to fill the field. The cup drivers should be allowed to drive in the series just dont let them get the championship.
