DARLINGTON, S.C. – JR Motorsports’ Brad Keselowski led the first Nationwide Series practice Thursday at Darlington Raceway in preparation for Friday night’s Diamond Hill Plywood 200.

Keselowski turned a lap of 172.432 mph in the No. 88 Chevrolet, topping Richard Childress Racing’s Clint Bowyer, who went 172.306. Those speeds are more than two mph faster than Ryan Newman’s track record of 170.301 set in 2001.

Darlington’s 1.366-mile track was repaved in the offseason, resulting in higher speeds.

Braun Racing’s Jason Leffler was third fastest, with Roush Fenway Racing’s David Ragan fourth and Braun’s Kyle Busch fifth.

The rest of the top 10 were Denny Hamlin (Joe Gibbs Racing) sixth, Carl Edwards (Roush Fenway) seventh, Mark Martin (JR Motorsports) eighth, Mike Wallace (Germain Racing) ninth and Jeff Burton (RCR) 10th.

David Reutimann’s Michael Waltrip Racing Toyota hit the wall during practice, and the team will be forced to use the backup car.

The Nationwide Series has two more practices scheduled Thursday, one at 5:40 p.m. EDT and another at 8:10 p.m. Qualifying is slated for 3:10 p.m. Friday, with the race set to take the green flag at 7:30 p.m .
