DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Kertus Davis is fine after a flash oil fire engulfed his JD Motorsports car in the NASCAR Nationwide Series Subway Jalapeno 250 on Friday night at Daytona International Speedway.

Davis had to quickly escape the car during the scary incident.

“I’m OK,” Davis said. “I saw the oil fly up on the windshield and I went to shut it off and it was just too late. It got on the headers and flamed up. I tried to turn it sideways and spin it around to make it go out, things I’ve seen on TV in years past.

“It happened really fast. The right front crush panel was knocked out and fire was coming inside the car. It singed my race shoes a little bit. I had no trouble getting out at all. I was really surprised.”

Davis had a right rear tire blow to start the accident.

“It was like grenade – there were parts and pieces flying inside, hitting me in the arm and the body was flying apart,” Davis said. “It’s just tough. I hate that it happened for my dad. We’ll get it all back together and go to Chicagoland [next week].”

Its Drivers Like Kertus Davis that deserve sponsors. He works on his own car and is smart enough to know how to make it fast, a crew cheifs dream. Hopefully someone will sponsor him so he can try to run a entire race again this year.

Kerry Earnhardt needs to be sued with LibertyPort for wrecking Donnie Neuenberger half way down the backstretch and purposely destroying Donnie's only racecar. Kerry was admittedly frustrated that he lost that one spot and got passed by Donnie coming out of Turn 2.

Kerry has a long, long way to go to be anything like his father. On the other hand, Donnie, a cancer survivor, lost his only racecar and can't race anymore due to the negligance and lack of self-control on behalf of the other party. The video of the wreck can easily be viewed per YouTube.

Amalycke, please get over your infatuation with Neuenberger. He wasn't wrecked by Kerry Earnhardt on purpose, which you would have known had you been watching the race without automatically being biased towards the 52. Kerry got wrecked by the 07 of Chase Austin (who really should not have been running in his debut at a restrictor plate race) and hit the 52.

Running at Daytona is a crapshoot anyway. When you go to race there, it should be with the expectation that the car you bring won't survive (unless you're a start-and-park team) because the odds are that it won't- at least not in one piece. If Donnie only had 1 car, that's his own fault.

I find it hard to believe that Jimmy Means only has one #52 car. He did better than that when he was driving himself.
I was glad to see the young man, K. Davis, able to get out of his racecar with seemingly very little trouble. Fire is always scary, especially with the young drivers.

To #6, Umm the big deal here is that he is a cancer survivor that has always dreamed of being a NASCAR driver. And the dream almost came true ... if it wasn't for Kerry Earnhardt.

That was an expensive Kevin Harvick car by the way.
