Kentucky speeding penalties have Carl Edwards concerned
BROOKLYN, Mich. – Less than a day after the fact, NASCAR driver Carl Edwards was still concerned about pit road speeding penalties he was assessed while competing in a Nationwide Series event at Kentucky Speedway.
Edwards, who finished 20th in Saturday night's Meijer 300, was penalized three times for excessive speed exiting the pits during the course of the race. He was one of 19 drivers penalized for speeding.
During the drivers meeting prior to today’s Lifelock 400 at Michigan International Speedway, Edwards asked if NASCAR officials could place a transponder in the pace car to make certain that scoring loops and pit road speed readings were being accurately recorded.
“I assume that’s in regard to last night’s event at Kentucky,” David Hoots, race director for today’s Sprint Cup Series race said.
“We’ve checked the [pit road] equipment and it’s the same since it was first implemented. … We feel the [timing and scoring] system is very accurate and we did get it right.”
