HAMPTON, Ga.Roush Fenway Racing’s Matt Kenseth held off Kevin Harvick Inc.’s Kevin Harvick in a green-white-checkered finish to win Saturday’s Nicorette 300 NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

Kenseth spent most of the day chasing Joe Gibbs Racing’s Kyle Busch, who for the second straight race saw his hopes for victory foiled by a cut right front tire.

Saturday’s faulty rubber sent Busch into the outside wall after leading 153 of the race’s first 170 laps. He limped home 24th, one lap down.

“Obviously we had the dominant car,” he said. “I’m just sorry about the fact that we blew another right front tire.”

Richard Childress Racing’s Jeff Burton placed third followed by Roush Fenway Racing’s Carl Edwards and RCR’s Bobby Labonte.

Kenseth, who led the final 13 laps, scored his first Nationwide triumph in 19 races and conceded that Busch’s mishap changed the complexion of the event.

“I knew it kind of opened the door for everybody,” he said. “There’s no way, in my opinion, any of us were going to beat him on speed.”

Harvick, who took over the series points lead by 25 points over Edwards, believed he had the speed to overtake Kenseth in the final laps had it not been for the final caution, triggered by debris from David Ragan’s cut tire with three laps to go.

“I’m pretty sure we would have passed him, it seemed like his car would take off really good on sticker tires," Harvick said. "We didn’t need any cautions, but we still put ourselves in that position, that’s the bad part … I just needed a few laps to get where I needed to be to be able to come back and pass him back.”
