Jay Robinson Racing officials announced Tuesday that veteran Kenny Wallace will take over the team’s No. 28 Nationwide Series Chevrolet, beginning with this weekend’s Pepsi 300 at Nashville Superspeedway.
The team will be sponsored by the U.S. Border Patrol. Wallace, who left Fitz Motorsports’ No. 36 Dodge because of sponsorship issues, will drive the rest of the season for JRR.
“Kenny brings some valuable experience and history of success to the JRR team,” owner Jay Robinson said. “I am more than confident that he will have the No. 28 U.S. Border Patrol Chevy running competitively on a weekly basis as well as being a key factor in helping the U.S. Border Patrol reach their recruitment initiative goals.”
Wallace described Robinson as a “well-respected car owner” in the Nationwide Series. Robinson has fielded cars in the series since 2002 and currently operates the No. 28 and No. 4.
The No. 28 was driven by Kirk Shelmerdine in Daytona and by Brian Keselowski in the four other races in the series. The team sits 35th in the Nationwide owners standings, meaning Wallace will have to make the Nashville race via qualifying.
“I am excited about the challenge of taking the No. 28 U.S. Border Patrol Chevy to the front and competing in the top 10 every week,” Wallace said. “I am very grateful for the opportunity to become part of the JRR team, and I’m ready to go racing. I feel especially proud that I am part of the U.S. Border Patrol team, and I look forward to helping them continue to raise awareness to recruit men and women to protect our borders.”
