Joe Gibbs Racing’s Joey Logano captures California Nationwide pole

FONTANA, Calif. – Joe Gibbs Racing’s Joey Logano, who won the Nationwide Series race from the pole at Auto Club Speedway last October, put his car on the pole for the Stater Bros. 300 on Saturday.

Logano turned a lap of 181.283 mph and will have JGR teammate Kyle Busch – the winner of last year’s February race here – on the outside of the front row. But Busch’s lap was nowhere near as fast as Logano's as Busch posted a speed of 179.906 mph.

The pole was the eighth for Logano in 43 career series starts.

Starting third will be Braun Racing’s Brian Scott, with Roush Fenway Racing’s Carl Edwards starting fourth and Baker Curb Racing’s Greg Biffle starting fifth.

JR Motorsports' Danica Patrick will start 36th in her second career NASCAR start.

Those qualifying who were not guaranteed spots were Scott, Biffle, Roush Fenway Racing’s Paul Menard, TriStar Motorsports’ Jason Keller, K Automotive Motorsports’ Dennis Setzer, ML Motorsports’ Mark Green, Mac Hill Motorsports’ Kevin Lepage, Borneman Motorsports’ John Borneman III, Team 42 Racing’s Parker Kligerman, Day Enterprises’ Willie Allen, Danny Efland Racing’s Danny Efland, Stratus Racing Group’s Derrike Cope and RAB Racing’s Scott Riggs.

Failing to qualify were Faith Motorsports’ Morgan Shepherd, D’Hondt Humphrey Motorsports’ Danny O’Quinn, D’Hondt Humphrey’s Stephen Leicht, K Automotive Motorsports’ Johnny Chapman, Corrie Stott Racing’s Andy Ponstein, and Davis Motorsports’ Jeremy Clements.
