NASCAR will replace its Nationwide Series road-course race in Mexico City with an event at the 0.875-mile Iowa Speedway oval in 2009.
The Iowa race is scheduled for Aug. 1, a week after the race at O’Reilly Raceway Park in Indianapolis. Montreal, which was the race following that event, has been moved to Aug. 30, an off weekend for Sprint Cup competitors.
Except for the Mexico-Iowa change, the Nationwide Series will run its 35 races at the same tracks as it did in 2008.
The 2009 schedule also includes the following alterations from 2008:
• There will be two weeks off after the season’s third race at Las Vegas as the Atlanta race has been moved from March to the Labor Day weekend. Following those two weeks off, the series competes March 21 at Bristol and then takes another week off.
• California’s second race moves along with its Cup date to October as it takes Talladega's spot on the Cup schedule.
• The Memphis race is a week earlier as the Oct. 24 race will conflict with the Cup race weekend at Martinsville. The Nationwide teams will then have a week off while Cup is at Talladega before the final three races of the year.
