WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. – Kevin Harvick led the lone NASCAR Nationwide Series practice Friday at Watkins Glen International after rain showers caused the cancellation of Sprint Cup activities. The track was dried in time for Nationwide teams to practice, though.
Harvick turned a top lap of 72.822 mph in his Kevin Harvick Inc. Chevrolet. He was followed by Richard Childress Racing's Jeff Burton, who posted a fast lap of 73.057 mph.
Rusty Wallace Racing's Max Papis, Chip Ganassi Racing's Dario Franchitti and JR Motorsports' Jimmie Johnson rounded out the top five.
Phoenix Racing's Landon Cassill crashed during the session and has gone to a backup car for Saturday's race.
Qualifying for Saturday's Zippo 200 is scheduled for 10:10 a.m. EDT on Saturday.
