INDIANAPOLISDenny Hamlin said Friday at Indianapolis Motor Speedway that Toyota’s domination of the NASCAR Nationwide Series isn’t all about horsepower.

Toyota has won 14 of the 21 races this season, including three victories by Hamlin. Joe Gibbs Racing has 13 of those 14 races, with nine wins by its No. 20 team.

Hamlin said the rest of the season will be “interesting” after NASCAR’s ruling earlier this week that was designed to decrease Toyota horsepower.

“As we saw on the dyno sheets the 20 car wasn’t even that high in the horsepower rankings,” Hamlin said as Sprint Cup teams prepared for Sunday’s Allstate 400. “It’s just that team’s hard work. Those cars are really handling well. What little horsepower they did take away to try to even it back up, it will be interesting to see if they still have the domination. I think its way more in depth than just horsepower.”

Hamlin agrees with the supposition that other Toyota teams are being punished with the success of the No. 20 team.

“I definitely agree,” Hamlin said. “We even switch over to the Braun Racing cars – me and Kyle [Busch] do. We feel like the motors are equal to everyone else. We don’t feel like they are head over shoulders above anyone. It’s a shame that they have got to go through it just because one team is really dominating. That [No. 20] team has worked really hard and they deserve it.”

Toyota’s success is because of a total package, including engines, chassis, body and teams.

“They’ve done a good job but it’s way more than just Toyota,” Hamlin said. “Gibbs is really on its game this year with the chassis. Everything is kind of coming together, and that’s why you are seeing the success that you are.”

Nascar is right, Toys are to fast. Given that I hope the NFL will follow suite and not allow the Patriots to drink Gatorade during the game, or better yet don't let them wear shoes.

Wayne what does that even have to do with NASCAR? Your example makes no sense just like another poster that posts on here and thinks that he knows everything

Of course denny is going to say what he said. why bite the hand that feeds you. with his personality, he would be singing a different song is he weren't in a toy this year. temper tantrums would be a weekly ritual for him.

Well, you know Denny could win racing in a soapbox---he seems to think that anyway, and he also thinks he is the big spokesman for the sport--too bad he hasn't realized the shrub has overshadowed him before he got to pitch his little fits every week. I'm waiting to see them walk water carrying a Toyota!
