Rensi-Hamilton Racing driver Eric McClure will make his 100th career start in the NASCAR Nationwide Series this weekend when he races in the Virginia 529 College Savings 250 at Richmond International Raceway.

McClure made his series debut at the old North Carolina Speedway in Rockingham in 2003, finishing 26th in a Chevrolet owned by his father, Jerry.

Though he has been a fixture in the series since 2007, McClure is still looking for his first top-10 finish.

“I’m very blessed to have had the opportunity to stick around long enough to make it to 100 starts,” McClure said. “The Nationwide Series is a great series, and I love being a part of it. Certainly, the involvement of our partner, Hefty brand, over the last few years has made it possible for me to continue to have fun with this and compete, and I’m grateful to them and everyone at RHR that allows me to continue to chase this dream.”

McClure’s milestone will be made on Sept. 11, on the eighth anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in New York and the Pentagon outside Washington, D.C.

“I think I, along with millions of people, remember exactly what I was doing on that day,” McClure said. “I remain impressed with our nation’s strength, resolve and unity that was shown after that day.  As many people mark the anniversary of that, and show their patriotism and remembrance, I’m thrilled to have the chance to compete on Sept. 11 in what I consider the American sport at the venue closest to our nation’s capital.”
