Eric McClure recovering from minor injuries from Memphis Nationwide crash
NASCAR Nationwide Series driver Eric McClure is resting at home after a hard crash in Saturday’s Kroger On Track For The Cure 250 at Memphis Motorsports Park.
McClure, who was hit from behind, slammed the outside wall in Turn 4 late in the race. After being helped from his No. 24 Rensi-Hamilton Racing Ford, McClure was taken to a local hospital for X-rays.
Tests showed that McClure had no broken bones in his left foot, only a bone bruise and ankle sprain, according to the team. McClure will follow up with his personal physician before taking part in the Nov. 7 weekend at Texas Motor Speedway.
“I can’t say enough about the safety equipment NASCAR has developed and implemented,” McClure said. “It definitely did its job. … The guys on this team do a great job with the safety aspect as well. Also, I want to commend the safety crews at the track because they got to me very quickly, even before I could get my window net down.
“I was taken to the infield care center and then driven to the local hospital after the race for an X-ray of my left foot. Thankfully, it wasn’t broken, just severely bruised, so we’ll follow NASCAR’s policies, and I will be back in Texas.”
