Daytona-winner Stewart captures Nationwide pole

TALLADEGA, Ala. – The driver who led the last lap of the previous Nationwide Series restrictor-plate race will lead the field to the green flag in the Aaron’s 312 on Saturday at Talladega Superspeedway.

Tony Stewart, who won the race at Daytona, turned a lap of 185.308 mph Friday at Talladega in the No. 20 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota. Stewart also won in the No. 20 car at California, and the No. 20 team won last week at Mexico City.

Phoenix Racing’s Mike Bliss posted a speed of 185.061 while Braun Racing’s Jason Leffler was third at 184.979 mph.

Fourth went to rookie Dario Franchitti (Chip Ganassi Racing) while JR Motorsports’ Brad Keselowski was fifth.

Starting sixth through 10th will be Richard Childress Racing’s Clint Bowyer, JR Motorsports’ Dale Earnhardt Jr., JGR’s Kyle Busch, Kevin Harvick Inc.’s Cale Gale and Braun’s Denny Hamlin.

All 43 cars entered qualified for the race, which is scheduled for 3 p.m. EDT Saturday on ABC.
