Braun Racing officials announced Wednesday that Dave Blaney will replace Denny Hamlin in the team’s No. 10 Toyota for Friday’s NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Lowe’s Motor Speedway.

Hamlin was in a grinding crash at Talladega Superspeedway during Sunday’s Sprint Cup race and spent the night in the hospital for observation. A Braun spokesperson said Joe Gibbs Racing officials wanted Hamlin to take it easy this weekend.

Blaney won the race at Charlotte two years ago, and Braun won at Charlotte earlier this year with Kyle Busch driving.

“I’m looking forward to working with the guys at Braun Racing again,” Blaney said. “We had some great successes together in the Nationwide Series in 2006 and 2007 with the highlight being the win in the Dollar General 300 two years ago. Since then, Braun Racing has added another Lowe’s Motor Speedway trophy to their display case and our goal this weekend is to make it a third.”

I guess Blaney is a good replacement for Denny. He's a good driver. I just wonder if he (Blaney) will ever get a good cup ride. He needs to be with a good time that can give him good cars. Good idea to let Denny rest and be ready for his cup race.
