Richard Childress Racing officials announced Tuesday that defending Nationwide Series champion Clint Bowyer will join the driver lineup for the team’s No. 29 Chevrolet for the 2009 season.

Bowyer and fellow RCR Sprint Cup driver Jeff Burton will share the No. 29 entry with Stephen Leicht. Bowyer drove the No. 2 Chevrolet to the 2008 Nationwide championship with crew chief Dan Deeringhoff.

Deeringhoff moves to the No. 29 team, which won the 2007 owners title with Burton and Scott Wimmer driving, for 2009.

“We decided to put Clint in for a few races, with Jeff and Stephen, to try to maximize the exposure for Holiday Inn,” team owner Richard Childress said in a news release. “He’s a champion who will help both the overall performance of the team and, with Jeff, will provide another direct point of reference for Stephen as he progresses through his learning curve.

“Dan is a proven crew chief after leading Clint to the drivers championship this past season. He knows what it takes to win both races and a championship. He’s got a good group of people behind him, so I’m looking forward to him continuing that success with the Holiday Inn program.”

Mentioned Drivers: Clint Bowyer

I hope they let Stephen Leicht have enough time in the car to prove he can do a good job at RCR. He is a good guy and deserves a chance.

I'm going to need 3 whiteboards for each series to figure out what's going on and who's going where for the first few races!

I agree. I wish the Cup drivers would stay out of the Nationwide series (unless they own a car). That way some unknown and unattached to a big name can have a chance to move up to the Cup series.
