BROOKLYN, Mich.Richard Childress didn't want to talk about his driver lineup for 2009 Sunday morning, but he was adamant in talking about what happened following the previous day's Nationwide Series race.

As far as whether Casey Mears has signed a deal to drive for Richard Childress Racing next season with Jack Daniel’s moving over as his sponsor and General Mills paired with current RCR driver Clint Bowyer, Childress didn’t say much.

“Any comments I have got to make, I’ll make them next week,” said Childress, who is expected to make that announcement next Saturday at Bristol Motor Speedway.

As far as seeing Joe Gibbs Racing’s Nationwide Series team get caught interfering with the inspection process by manipulating the throttle on the chassis dynamometer, Childress was a little more vocal, saying whoever was responsible should be kicked out of the garage.

“I’ll say it’s damn blatant,” Childress said. “I’m surprised they got caught. When people get an advantage, they don’t want to give it up and sometimes they go to extremes to keep from giving up an advantage, and that’s just what they did.”

Bowyer currently leads the Nationwide Series driver standings by 113 points over Carl Edwards but his No. 2 RCR team is 318 points behind the No. 20 JGR team in the owner standings.

NASCAR Vice President of Competition Robin Pemberton indicated that penalties will be levied this week.

Childress said even with a penalty to the No. 20 team, his team needs to improve to contend for the owners title.

“We’ve got to get our act a little better together,” Childress said. “If we're running second every week, I could be hollering. Right now, we’ve had some good runs and wins, but we’ve got room for improvement.”

It is to bad that other car mfg. can't run as good as Toyota. This is ridiculus, get the cars moving or get out of Toyota's way!!! The restriction on Toyota is ridiculus! If you can't handle the speed, get of the track!!!

This is not about who has the most horsepower and which is the best manufacturer. This is about manipulating and cheating. Toyota is fast...so what. Cheating, by any team, is wrong.

Don't worry Childress, Gibbs and NASCAR will deal with whoever placed the shims under the throttle. Gibbs isn't going to tolerate someone in their organization who will ultimately sabotage Gibbs' reputation as owners. Maybe the RCR organization as well as the other teams should work on making their cars faster rather than whining about the achievements of Toyota.

The shims were placed in the cars post-race. This violation was about manipulating the dyno data, the race results were not affected by the bad judgement of the individuals at JGR

As soon as NASCAR sees fit to allow the GM Teams to run the R07 Motor in the Natiowide Series they will have to run the new spacer as well.. The issue is that they have been allowing Toyot to use the same motor as they use in Cup as the basis for their Nationwide effort and have not allowed the other MFG's the same.. This is why they had more horsepower and they finally made them run a different spacer.. As I have said all they new motors will have to do this when they are allowed in the Nationwide Series...

I don't see Joe or JD Gibbs having anything to do with this issue. It was someone withing the organization that decided to do this. Having said that, it makes you wonder why they were trying to hide how much horsepower they actually had and if it has been done on the Sprint cup series.

I would like to know if Childress has ever cheated? Don't act like your better than everyone else.Funny how nascar was soooo excited for toyota to come along. But now I don't think they expected the success,so lets slow them down.Well I agree, the other manufactures need to get with it or move over!!!

No one and mean no one would have placed the magnets without being told to do so by the boss. The face that it was done to both cars, the same thickness, the proper thickness to reduce hp to be equal to the other makes , and in a toolbox that was on pit road proves that it was well planed and many people were involved in it. The new moto at JGR is win at any cost. Cheat or wreckum or whatever .You can bet JD knew about it no matter what he says.

nascar has always leveled the playing field so no manufacturer had a clear advantage so whats new? cheating is cheating and its wrong no matter who does it.

The point is that Toyota only had an advantage manufactured by NASCAR not allowing the other manufactures to run an equivalent motor to the Toyotas.. And only did something to level things after the other Teams got very irate and vocal.. See my post above... The word that I got from people I know in the business and members of several Nationwide series crews was that there were rumors of Teams pulling their cars if NASCAR didn't do something by either allowing them to start using the newer motors as they ahd done with Toyota or level the playing field which is what NASCAR did...

Childress needs to lobby for the RO7 and do the hard work Gibbs has done,Like he never got caught cheating,Nascars entering dangerious territory here. The magnets were never used in a race,They were just attempting to level the playing field,PB's post is correct

Otis, Childress has done the hard work and developed heads that that NASCAR refused to let them use, they have lobbied over and over again along with the other chevy teams to use the R07 and NASCAR flatly refuses to allow them to use it while instead they decided to restrict the Toyota.. What I have been told by very reliable resources is that they believe the reason is that head to head in the Nationwide series with the rules as they are the R07 develops more power than the Toyota with or without the new restrictions..
