LOUDON, N.H. - JR Motorsports' Landon Cassill scored his first career Nationwide Series pole on Saturday morning at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, taking the top spot in qualifying for the Camping World 200.
Cassill, an 18-year-old Hendrick Motorsports development driver sharing time with several drivers in the No. 5 JR Motorsports car this season, turned a fast lap of 127.799 mph to win the pole for just his 15th series start.
He will have to start at the rear of the field, however, because of an engine change before qualifying.
“It’s big," Cassill said of his run. "I’m really proud of it right now. It’s a stepping stone and I’d like another big moment this weekend. There’s definitely more to come.”
Richard Childress Racing's Clint Bowyer qualified second at 127.265 followed by Roush Fenway Racing's Greg Biffle at 127.117.
Joe Gibbs Racing's Kyle Busch and Kevin Harvick Inc.'s Kevin Harvick completed the top five.
CJM Racing's Jason Keller and Phoenix Racing's Mike Bliss took the sixth and seventh positions, respectively, followed by Tony Stewart, who is making a scheduled start in the No. 20 Joe Gibbs Racing car normally driven by Joey Logano.
JR Motorsports' Brad Keselowski and Chip Ganassi Racing's Dario Franchitti completed the top 10.
MSRP Motorsports' Justin Hobgood failed to qualify and will miss the race.
ABC's race coverage is slated to begin at 2:30 p.m. EDT Saturday.
