Kasey Kahne will be replaced by Patrick Carpentier in the No. 9 Gillett Evernham Motorsports’ Dodge for today’s Sam’s Town 300 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Kahne has a sinus infection and Carpentier already qualified the car for the race. The symptoms started two days ago and worsened Friday, according to a team release. That day, Kahne took part in NASCAR Sprint Cup Series practice and qualifying and two Nationwide Series practices.

"Kasey was feeling absolutely terrible yesterday with a real bad sinus infection," said Mark McArdle, vice president of competition for GEM. "After the first practice, we knew we might have to do something to allow Kasey the time to get better for Sunday's race. It became more evident as the day went on, so we went with Patrick to drive the Nationwide race.

"As of this [Saturday] morning, we were glad to hear Kasey is feeling and getting better. He has been taking fluids and getting plenty of
rest. We have Jason Keller on stand-by if we need to go that route, but we're pretty sure Kasey will be good to go tomorrow."

Carpentier, who drives the team’s No. 10 Cup car, made his first race of the year qualifying 12th for Sunday's UAW-Dodge 400 but has only been in the Nationwide car for the qualifying laps. He will start 12th in today’s race.
