Carlos Pardo dies after crash in NASCAR Mexico Series race Sunday
Carlos Pardo, who competed in the 2006 Nationwide Series race in Mexico City and also had six career Camping World East Series starts, died following an accident during a NASCAR Mexico Series race Sunday at Autodromo Miguel E. Abed in Puebla.
The accident occurred in the final laps of Sunday’s event, according to a NASCAR news release. Pardo, 33 and the 2004 NASCAR Mexico champion, was taken to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
“Carlos Pardo was a tremendous competitor and person,” said Chad Little, NASCAR Mexico director of racing development. “On behalf of everybody in the NASCAR family, our thoughts and prayers go out to Carlos’ family and friends.”
The event concluded because of the time limit following the accident, and in accordance with the series rule book, the finishing order reverted back to the last completed green-flag lap, and Pardo, who was leading at that time, was declared the winner.
Pardo’s brother, Ruben, also competes in the NASCAR Mexico Series and has competed in the East Series and the Nationwide Series.
