Carl Edwards plans to run full Nationwide schedule in 2010 for Roush Fenway Racing

WEST ALLIS, Wis. – Five consecutive seasons of running the Sprint Cup and Nationwide series schedules full time apparently isn’t enough for Roush Fenway Racing’s Carl Edwards.

After earning his first NASCAR Nationwide Series victory of the season at the Milwaukee Mile, Edwards said he plans on running full time in the series again in 2010.

“This is my fifth year of running both series full time, and we’re planning on doing it next year,” Edwards said. “I don’t know how it’s all going to work out, but I enjoy it.”

Edwards has won 16 Cup and 21 Nationwide races over that five-year span. He also won the championship in what was then known as the Busch Series in 2007 and has never finished lower than third in the series standings.

“I enjoy it because of my guys,” Edwards said. “I get to race for championships with a great group of guys and drive these cars that [co-owner] Jack [Roush] lets them build. It’s cool. I enjoy it.”

Roush, please do not allow him too. It's not that I don't like him, but your team just said that the Truck Series team isn't going to run next year and that Stenhouse and Colin Braun would move to Nationwide. That's two more drivers you are putting into rides that really don't exist right now. Personally, I'd rather see David Ragan hone his skills some more in NW than see Carl Edwards race. Nothing against him, but I'd rather see guys climbing the ranks to be in the car than someone who's just 'having fun' racing there.

He's beatable though. Clint Bowyer beat him for the championship with just 1 win last year, and Hadn't Brad Keselowski gotten off to such a bad start this year, he'd be ahead of Carl in points.
If Keselowski returns to the 88 next season, he's my favorite to win it, not Carl Edwards. and if Jason Leffler were more consistent and get to victory lane a couple times, i wouldn't count him out either.

i really hope that roush doesnt allow him to do this...he needs to concentrate on cup and not on winning nationwide title while taking seat time from young drivers that need it (braun, darnell, stenhouse)

I agree. Roush shouldn't let him do it. Stick with the lower tier racers. Put Colin in the 60. Or at least in all the stand-alone races. No Cup driver, except maybe rookies need to be running full time in the Nationwide series. Give it back to the Nationwide drivers. Same with JGR. Let Brad Coleman keep the 18 and let Kyle, Denny and Joey share the 20. Or the other way around. But don't let full-time Cup regulars compete full time in Nationwide. Unless they are a Cup rookie. That's just how it should be.

Edwards and the other full time cup drivers racing in Nationwide Series is about as fair as (cup Drivers) riding bicycles against every one else riding tricycles. But watch out you back-flipping cup driver!! There are drivers on your tail!! I guess you can wreck them out and get away with it if you feel threatened. Brad's coming, so watch out!!!!!

Gee, Golly, if he can't win cup maybe he can win the lower series title. Enough already! Having the cup guys running for titles in a lower league is dumb. They shouldn't be proud. Let the cup guys race some races. This way Nationwide drivers who are doing great will get the credit. Racing against cup drivers is ok but not competing against them.

I think it's an ego trip for full-time cup drivers to compete full time in the Nationwide series. Of course, they will win the title, or at least they should. The last three weeks there were more than enough cars to fill the Nationwide field without any full-time cup drivers. Rookie cup drivers are the only cup drivers who should be allowed to compete full time in the Nationwide series.

The Cup drivers should not be running a full time Nationwide schedule. I don't have a problem with Cup drivers running in Nationwide every now and then but they shouldn't run the full season and take the championship. NASCAR should limit the number of races a full time Cup driver can run in the Nationwide series to 5 or 10 races per year.

I've said it before: Major league "all-star " players don't belong in Triple A ball. I like Carl and I think this detracts from his Sprint Cup ride. It's time to show a little leadership and let the less experienced drivers get their chance in the Nationwide series. I agree with JJ48 that Cup drivers shouldn't be banned outright from the NNS, but be limited.

How convenient that Carl waited until after he won a Nationwide race to announce that he plans to run for the championship in the Nationwide Series again next year, "because it's fun." Enough already! He's a Sprint Cup driver - he's over qualified for the Nationwide series. He should be focused on the Sprint Cup series - it's obvious that he needs more experience in that series to stop spinning out / wreaking his team mates. If Sprint Cup drivers want to race in the Nationwide Series it should be limited to a certain number of races with preference given to those drivers who are trying to promote Nationwide teams - KHI, JR Motorsports, etc. It's past time NASCAR stops allowing Sprint Cup drivers to "moonlight" in the Nationwide Series and steal the victories from the Nationwide regulars.
