Brian Vickers, Reed Sorenson to share Nationwide car at Braun Racing
Brian Vickers, who won the 2003 championship in what is now the Nationwide Series, and Reed Sorenson will share Braun Racing’s No. 32 entry in the series in 2010, the team announced Thursday.
Vickers, who competes for Red Bull Racing in the Sprint Cup Series, has run for Braun part-time the last three years, while Sorenson, who formerly competed for Richard Petty Motorsports in Cup, ran a handful of races for Braun last year. Sorenson will compete in 23 races, Vickers will drive in 10, and a driver for the road-course events will be announced later.
Trent Owens remains the crew chief of the No. 32 car, which finished seventh in the owner standings last year. Dollar General remains the car sponsor.
“I am happy to be back with Braun Racing and Dollar General in 2010,” said Vickers, a participant in the 2009 Chase For The Sprint Cup. “It is a family that I am honored to be a part of. Crew chief Trent Owens and I have great chemistry, and our team has a rock solid foundation going into next season.
“Running in the Nationwide Series is a lot of fun. I’m able to run at tracks where I know we will run well together, focusing on putting the car in victory lane. We came close to a few wins in 2009, and we will capitalize on what we learned for a great 2010.”
The 23 races will be big for Sorenson, who does not have any full-time Cup plans for 2010 after being in the series full time the last four years.
“Braun Racing is a great organization, and I am excited to be a part of its future,” said Sorenson, who has three career wins in the Nationwide Series. “I know they will provide me with the opportunities that every driver wants – to be in solid equipment and to win races.”
Sorenson and Vickers will be part of a four-car stable at Braun, which includes Brian Scott and Jason Leffler driving in all 35 races and Kasey Kahne competing on a partial schedule.
“I am very happy to have Vickers and Sorenson back at Braun Racing next year,” said team owner Todd Braun. “We will have a strong group of veterans behind the wheel of the No. 32 Dollar General Toyota, and I think we are in position to have a solid season and contend for the 2010 owner’s championship.”
This will be the third season that Dollar General will be with Braun.
“Dollar General is pleased to have Vickers and Sorenson in the seat of the No. 32 Dollar General car for another season,” said Dollar General Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Rick Dreiling. “We look forward to watching their experience, skill and leadership combine to create a winning team behind the wheel. Dollar General proudly supports their efforts on the track, and we’re glad they will be wearing the yellow and black in 2010.”
Financial terms of the sponsorship were not disclosed.
