Roush Fenway Racing’s Colin Braun will return to his road-course racing roots this weekend when the NASCAR Nationwide Series visits Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico City.

Braun, who will be making his second Nationwide Series start in the team’s No. 16 Ford, has five years of experience on road courses such as the 8-turn 2.518-mile Mexico City track. The 19-year-old driver has two starts there in Rolex Grand Am Daytona Prototype races. He finished second in 2006, and started on the pole and finished second in 2007.

This weekend, though, marks his first start on the track in a stock car.

“I’m really excited to get to Mexico City this weekend,” Braun said. “It’ll be fun to be at a track where I have more experience than a lot of the other Nationwide Series drivers.  …  I’m ready to get down there - it’s going to be a lot of fun.”

Braun, a regular in the Craftsman Truck Series, joined his Roush Fenway teammates in a recent test session at Virginia International Raceway.

He’s hoping to build on his Nationwide debut, which came at Nashville Superspeedway last month. Braun started ninth and finished 15th in that race.

“We are thrilled that Colin is driving for us this weekend,” crew chief Eddie Pardue said. “He’s proven he can win road-course races. This is a track he feels really comfortable on, and we’re excited to get going. We’re taking a good car, and I expect Colin to run up front all weekend.”
