MADISON, Ill. – Bobby Hamilton Jr. will drive for his own NASCAR Nationwide Series team in next weekend’s Kroger 200 at O’Reilly Raceway Park, team president Ronnie Russell said Saturday.

Hamilton Jr. will drive his Rensi-Hamilton Racing No. 25 Ford as a teammate to Eric McClure. Hamilton’s car will be sponsored by Eckrich, which backed the team in six events last year.

The Armour-Eckrich company backed the team last year.

Russell said the deal is for one race only and “probably won’t” turn into anything more.

“If it turned into anything, it would be no more than six races,” Russell said.

Having a second full-time car is the team’s goal, but sponsorship hasn’t been found for Hamilton Jr.’s car. He bought into the former Team Rensi Motorsports team after the 2008 season.

“It would help a lot if we could do it every week,” Russell said. “Even at the lower scale of money that we get these days, if you could put two things together like that, it would help their overall cost.”

Hamilton Jr. has driven five races this season, but none for his own team.
