As part of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital’s Design-a-Dream contest, nine Nationwide Series cars will sport special paint schemes designed by children at St Jude’s in next weekend’s race at Memphis Motorsports Park.

Children at St. Jude created paint schemes, and eight were selected to be used during the race. Defending series champion Carl Edwards is part of the program, as is defending race winner David Reutimann, Jason Leffler, Mike Wallace, Scott Wimmer, Scott Lagasse Jr., Kevin Hamlin, Stanton Barrett and D.J. Kennington.

Reutimann sported a special paint scheme drawn by St. Jude patient Wiley King in winning last year’s race.

“The kids’ self-esteem will be incredible because of this,” said Kevin Nienhuis, manager of sports marketing for St. Jude.

St. Jude is not requesting donations from teams or sponsors and is not asking sponsors to give up space on the cars.

Marketing agency Leverage Sports is heading up the campaign.

“Fighting for your life is the biggest act of heroism there is,” Leverage Sports founder Ryan Kurek said. “And people should know about the children, their stories and how they can make a difference in keeping the doors open at St. Jude. I look forward to seeing the painted cars and the looks of excitement on the children’s faces at the track.”
