NASCAR announced today that it has fined Chad Walter, crew chief of JR Motorsports' No. 5 Chevrolet, $10,000 for using "improper language" on television during Saturday's Camping World 200 Nationwide Series race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

Walter also remains on probation until Dec. 31.

Team owner Rick Hendrick was also penalized 25 Nationwide Series owner points, and driver Landon Cassill was penalized 25 driver points.

Walter was placed on probation in February because of rule violations during the season-opening event at Daytona International Speedway.

IF THE MEDIA WOULD KEEP THEIR MICROPHONES STUCK WHERE THE SUN DONT SHINE THERE WOULD NOT BE ANY IMPROPER LANGAGE USED ON TV & NOBODY WOULD GET FINED. IN THE HEAT OF THE MOMENT PEOPLE SAY THINGS WHEN THEY ARE EXCITED.THEY ARE SOO EXCITED TO GET A STORY WHEN THEY COULD WAIT AWHILE TILL PEOPLE GET CALMED DOWN BEFORE THEY STICK THE MIC IN THEIR FACE.

Keep the reporters away from the drivers. It has gotten silly if you ask me.

..it happens. The crews expect it and we would all throw a screaming tantrum if we didn't get to hear exactly what happened. Keep up the great coverage of a real sport with real people.

You are right, Terry. I don't know how the teams and drivers do as well as they do. They have so much on their plates during an entire race and then have to think about what they are saying. I wonder how some of the people who complain and do the fining would like to have a fly on their walls all the time. Don't think it would be so much fun.

Hmmm, seems that I read posts about fans complaining because their driver wasn't interviewed after the race, now here is a post that doesn't want any interviews,,,just can't win I guess. The network that carried the race should have a 5 second button in place for the very reason of "in the heat of battle" comments. Walter should not have been fined, the network should have had the technology to block it. Drivers in the top five after a race are contractually obligated to do an interview...Grover, not sure what a boycott would do, but hurt an already economically hurting NASCAR more. As for the reporters doing the interviews, they are doing their jobs, they get paid for it, just like you and I get paid for doing ours, if they don't do it, the Networks will find someone else...

It's all moot now as Chad has resigned as crew chief of the #5 car. Anyone know why? It must be a full time job making apologies to other teams for the cars that Landon tears up.Maybe Chad was tired of that part of the job?
